Alone born twins
At least 1 in 10 people started life in the womb with a twin. Most people don’t know as the first ultrasound is done too late to notice the loss. The loss usually happens in the first trimester. Some might notice an empty amniotic sac next to the surviving twin, indicating that the other has “vanished”. It doesn’t actually vanish but is either aborted or absorbed by the placenta or the remaining twin. If the loss happens later than week 12, it stays in the womb for the remaining of the pregnancy and is born with the surviving twin. This is known as foetus papyraceous. HOW CAN A TWIN LOSS AFFECT YOU? As a lone born twin, you might have always felt lonely, different, wrong, you might have felt that you carried an unexplainable longing for something or someone. You might have recurrent patterns in your life that don’t seem to get better, despite for your effort to make changes or heal. This is because you are not addressing the actual underlying root cause of your symptoms: the trauma that happened to you in the womb!
The nervous system of alone born twins
More and more research shows us that what happens in the womb already shapes the people we become in the future. It can affect our thought patterns, our behaviour and our general health. The nervous system develops within the first few weeks of conception, and within the first trimester we can already sense, move, feel touch, taste etc., and it is therefore possible to have “felt” another twin. For twins the first relationship isn’t with the mother, but with the other twin. Due to interactions in the womb and to the loss, this can shape future relationship dynamics in a way that we are not aware of – this actually happens in our subconscious. Alone born twins have a very unique set up of how their brain and nervous system works. It is possible to remember the loss as memory isn’t only stored in neurons in the brain but in all cells of the body. It is possible to change the subconscious patterns and release the stored energy in the body by doing appropriate therapy. By creating neuroplasticity, we can move towards better patterns in both thoughts and behaviour. This is possible through specialised neurocentered therapy, available to alone born twins by neurospecialist Annika Spanggaard.

Neurocentered therapy for alone born twins
Online or in person
As the only professional in the world, Annika Spanggaard offers specialised neurocentered therapy for alone born twins. With a background in psychomotor therapy, physiotherapy, a masters degree and an additional specialisation in neurology, Annika offers a unique combination of skills to help create changes in both the body, the brain and nervous system. She has also collaborated with Dr Philip Hayton, son of Althea Hayton, founder of Womb Twin. She is based in Denmark but offers worldwide online sessions. It usually starts with a 15 minute free phone call to get to know each other a bit and talk about the therapeutic approach. Here you can also ask any questions you want. Then, the first consultation lasts for about 1h30 minutes where we get more in depth with the symptoms and patterns. We also do certain biomechanical and neurological tests if relevant (YES, these can be done ONLINE via webcam). The following sessions of 60 minutes each we dive into the actual therapy. This is usually a combination of functional neurology, regression therapy, sensory integration therapy, activation/inhibition of various brain areas, body therapy etc. (YES – also doable ONLINE).
